Next Sunday, we'll hear the well known and wonderful story of Jesus feeding the five thousand. But that story happens in the shadow of John the Baptist's decapitation. It is gruesome and terrible. But it is exactly in that terrifying world that Jesus comes to dwell and be with us. We are sometimes dumb founded by the brutality of our world and might wonder if it means that we are are outside God's ability to bring us back. But is exactly that world, our world, that God loves so much and that Jesus will never give up on. Even when heads roll for preaching the Reign of God, Jesus stands up to bless us and feed us.
