Jesus said to them, "The light is with you for a little longer. Walk while you have the light, so that the darkness may not overtake you. If you walk in the darkness, you do not know where you are going. While you have the light, believe in the light, so that you may become children of light." After Jesus had said this, he departed and hid from them. - John 12.35-36
I love evening prayer. I love the introductory sentences - Jesus Christ is the Light of the World! And the congregation answers - The Light no Darkness can overcome!
In Holy Week, we need Light in the darkness. It appears as if the darkness will triumph, as if the Light will be destroyed. We hold on in the midst of the darkness of Maundy Thursday, the long night trail, the darkened sky on Good Friday, the long darkness of the tomb, the darkness of Sunday night just as it appears that dawn will never come.
But then we hear it: The Light of Christ rising in glory to dispel the darkness of our hearts and minds.
Read all of the Scripture appointed for Tuesday in Holy Week.
